Old Silverplate Flatware Repurposed

OK, I’ll make this quick: all the information you need if your eyes dance the way mine did when I saw these wonderful little repurposed silver vases at the Portland Saturday Market this past weekend.

They’re perfect for informal little bouquets to give as gifts (the one in front was $11.00, the magnetic mini-vase in back was $7.00), or simply to add little, seasonal hits of floral magic to window sills and bookshelves around the house. Most days I’m happy enough with tiny jam jars and other containers small enough that quickly snipping enough flowers to fill a handful of them won’t require some sort of major undertaking or practically denude my garden. But hey, these little gems are silver plate, which makes them ever so much more elegant looking than my little bottles and jam jars, and because of their clean lines and diminutive size, nearly perfect to the task.

Strike your bouquet fancy? Look for the Spoonman Creations (un) ltd booth at the Portland Saturday Market, visit their website or call them on their toll free line. 1-(800)-656-3458. (BTW, they have no idea that I’m sending you their way, and don’t know me from Adam.) I just happen to be an ardent new fan of their silvery little wonders and I thought some of you might feel the same.

One of my favorite host/hostess gifts is to bring a homegrown bouquet arranged is a unique vase, one found at a garage sale or favorite thrift shop. A slightly chipped Limoges sugar bowl was my latest find for $2.50, filled with bluebells and violets to become a new kind of sweet container.

What a beautiful building! And it smells so fragrant in there….. (or so my mind’s nose believes.) Eye candy indeed.

Well, David, I thought I was commenting about the wholesale flower market photo I just saw, but I like these little fork vases as well….

Hey Tom, this really is a great idea you’ve shared. I’m tucking it away for the near future. And Janet, glad you like them . . . they are very fun aren’t they. And perfect for tiny little flowers in tiny little bunches.
